Ron Dror

Department of Computer Science

Dr. Ron Dror is the Cheriton Family Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University, where he leads a research group in the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Lab focused on using molecular simulation and machine learning to understand biomolecular structure, dynamics, and function, with the goal of guiding the development of more effective medicines. Prior to joining Stanford, he served as the second-in-command at D. E. Shaw Research, where he played a pivotal role in designing hardware, software, and algorithms that significantly accelerated molecular dynamics simulations. Dr. Dror earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT, where he developed machine learning methods for computer vision and genomics, and holds an MPhil in Biological Sciences from the University of Cambridge. He has received numerous accolades, including the Gordon Bell Prize and recognition as one of Science magazine's top-10 breakthroughs of the year. In addition to his primary appointment, Dr. Dror holds courtesy professorships in Molecular and Cellular Physiology and Structural Biology, and is actively involved in various interdisciplinary initiatives at Stanford.
