MCP Seminar Series: Dr. Cornelius Gati
Event Details:
Location
Cornelius Gati is an Assistant Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biosciences at USC Dornsife, with joint appointments in chemistry, pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences, and quantitative and computational biology. His lab studies the structure and function of G protein-coupled receptors and related signaling proteins relevant to neurobiology and immunology, combining single-particle cryo-electron microscopy with membrane protein biochemistry, cell biology, and pharmacological assays. Trained in cryo-EM as a postdoc with Sjors Scheres at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, Gati led an independent group at SLAC and Stanford School of Medicine before joining USC in 2021. Recent work from the lab includes fiducial-assisted cryo-EM structures of human Frizzled5 supporting a heterodimeric mechanism of canonical Wnt signaling, and the structural basis for activation of a metabotropic GABA receptor.
