Research InterestI earned my Ph.D. in physiology and physiopathology in 2008 at the University Pierre & Marie Curie (UPMC) in Paris. My research interests were initially oriented on the brainstem neural circuits governing sleep/wake transitions with a particular focus on the serotonin (5-HT) signaling. As I joined Luis de Lecea's lab as a postdoc fellow, I pursued studying the dynamic of arousal systems across vigilance states and in response to environmental & behavioral challenges that threaten and disrupt ho..

Research InterestNarcolepsy- hypocretin deficiency is a common sleep disorder characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness and abnormal sleep-wake patterns. These patients also suffer from cataplexy, a sudden loss of muscle tone triggered by strong emotions such as laughter. The disorder is caused by the specific loss of hypothalamic neurons producing two hypocretin peptides with high homology with each other, namely hcrt1 and hcrt2. These are produced by proteolytic cleavage of a single precursor protein kno..

Research InterestMy lab uses molecular, optogenetic, anatomical and behavioral methods to identify and manipulate the neuronal circuits underlying brain arousal, with particular attention to sleep and wakefulness transitions. We are also interested in the changes that occur in neuronal circuits in conditions of hyperarousal such as stress and drug addiction.

Clinical Focus- Narcolepsy Cataplexy Syndrome
- Kleine-Levin Syndrome
- Sleep Medicine
Research InterestThe research focus of the laboratory is the study of sleep and sleep disorders such as narcolepsy and Kleine Levin syndrome. We also study the neurobiological and genetic basis of the EEG and develop new tools to study sleep using nocturnal polysomnography. Approaches mostly involve human genetic studies (GWAS, sequencing), EEG signal analysis, and immunology (as narcolepsy is an autoimmune disease of the brain).

Research InterestThe research focus of the Sleep and Circadian Neurobiology (SCN) Laboratory is the study of the sleep and circadian physiology using various animal models. A portion of the research is carried out using rodent models of narcolepsy and circadian rhythm sleep disorders. The laboratory also carries out pharmacological studies aiming to develop new treatments for these sleep disorders.

Research InterestResearch interests are focused on the study of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBTi) treatment outcome, modification of CBTi and use in special populations, treatment development, and evaluation of clinical factors in early remission and relapse prevention. Additional area of research interest includes development of an integrated model of care for improved CPAP adherence outcomes.
